30th April

November 2008 sees the release of a much revered collection of songs by one of South Africa’s most treasured rock bands.

In the early 1990’s, South African musicians and audiences alike where in search of an identity to call their own. SUGARDRIVE answered that call in ’94 and embarked on a journey that would span more than a decade. They flew the flag for originality, self-belief and re-invention.

Five SAMA nominations and three awards was testament to the importance of SUGARDRIVE’S impact on the SA music industry. Abroad, they were at a level that was never overshadowed by the bands they shared stages with, Alanis Morissette says of the band, “I had no expectations of them, but they are a great band, they make interesting choices of chords and they have unusual courage in their lyrics – men don’t usually have this.”

SUGARDRIVE never swayed from their work … Read More »

July 2008 sees the release to radio of “Over Now”, the first single off Ian Henderson’s new record “Superglue”, the long overdue follow-up to 2002′s SAMA-nominated “Freefall”.
Recorded under the watchful eye of Swedish producer Ola Sonmark, in South Africa, Sweden and Norway, this record is the remarkable outcome of an international collaboration involving musicians from as far afield as Paraguay, Australia, Germany and the US. It’s an accomplished, confident sophomore record that’s full of heart and soul, from a songwriter who’s come of age.

Ian Henderson is a contemporary South African acoustic pop artist, a little less bluesy than John Mayer a little more light-hearted than David Gray. But the territory is the same: soulful, deeply personal songs , catchy melodies, passionate delivery. On vocals, guitar and piano, and accompanied by a fine range of session musicians, his live delivery is … Read More »

30th April

Aged 24, Candice is no stranger to the music and media business, having spent most of her adult life in the spotlight as a TV and media personality in South Africa. Although this has made her a household name in South Africa, around 3 years ago Candice started to consider a move into music, and began speaking to local record companies. She chose to join Musketeer because of Brian O’Shea’s considerable reputation as SA’s foremost producer.

The path to create a unique musical style for Candice led her to hook up with Clive Young, an Australian songwriter and producer and former Australian songwriter of the year. This relationship developed so well that Brian O’Shea decided to take an executive production role in the project, and give Clive more time working with Candice to develop her songwriting skills, as well as giving … Read More »

30th April

A band born of melody, song writing maturity and focused vision, beyond its mere three year existence. This is the pedigree with which HEROES WEAR RED presents its self to the world.

As is the developmental process of a band, HEROES now finds its self settled, in the form of a four piece, able to create melancholy, light and shade, with the precision of pop appeal.

HEROES, founded by bass player Gavin Wienand and vocalist Timothy kroon, prove to be a formidable song writing team, rounded off by the new addition of drummer Patrick Smith and guitarist Tumi Mothei.  The subtle use of programming, combined with energy of a rock band that delivers strong pop songs is a formula which proves to be fresh and widely appealing.

2008 saw the independent release of the band’s debut album, “SURVIVING SEPTEMBER”. The limited and exclusive release to retail will in 2009 step up a gear. HEROES have joined forces with MUSKETEER RECORDS to … Read More »
